Play it Forward Campaign: Three Key Priorities

The original MTYP building, which was the first of its kind in Canada when it opened in 1999, has served young people in our community well for 24 wonderful years.

With your support, MTYP will modernize every part of our iconic facility to improve accessibility, increase capacity, and also invest in an endowed fund that will build upon MTYP’s history of offering a welcoming space where young people and their families can experience the wonder and joy of theatre.

Retire the Legacy Debt - $1.5 million - Achieved

With the generosity of community leaders MTYP’s this legacy debt was retired in 2022, creating space for us to focus on the future of expanded programming for audiences and young artists.

Renew the Facility - $6.5 million

MTYP opened its doors at The Forks in 1999 and has welcomed millions of young people through its doors over the past 25 years. It is now time to modernize the facility to engage young people with the joy of theatre for the next 25 years.

Renewal Priorities:

Reinvest in and modernize the facility, with improvements that will result in greater accessibility, sustainability and capacity.

Reduce barriers that limit accessibility, improving access for audiences, students, artists, volunteers, and staff.

Create an improved quiet room where young children and families can continue to see and hear the show in an environment that accommodates a range of different needs an abilities.

Convert Richardson Hall into the Richardson Studio Theatre, a fully outfitted black-box theatre to serve as a second, more intimate performance space, increasing the facility’s capacity of use.

Establish a New Production Endowment Fund - $1 million

The establishment of this endowed fund will provide sustainable support to continue MTYP’s award-winning history of creating theatre works for young audiences, supporting development and production of made-in-Manitoba plays, increasing opportunities for emerging, modern, and diverse voices to engage with the province’s professional theatre community.
